Choosing a Gift for a Coworker

Monday, July 16th, 2007 by webmaster

Giving an appropriate gift in a professional setting can be difficult. You may know your coworkers well, but often not well enough to make shopping for an appropriate gift easy.

Quite a bit depends on whether you are shopping for a man or a woman. There will be different preferences for each. A woman, for example, will likely enjoy a spa gift certificate, while a man probably won’t be all that enthusiastic about the idea.

The other big factor is your budget. Are you shopping for something just from you, or from other coworkers as well? Obviously a group gift will generally have a better budget and you will want to choose something that everyone will be happy about giving. Read the rest of this entry »

Making Your Own Gift Baskets

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007 by webmaster

Sometimes it’s hard to find just the right gift for someone. They may have everything you can think of in the price range you want to spend.

Perhaps it’s time to think of a gift basket.

Gift baskets are incredibly flexible. You can do any theme you like with them. You can fill them up with all kinds of little things that can be used up or that will last for years.

And of course they don’t have to be in a basket. You can use the gift basket idea but use something that goes with the theme of what is inside. A bucket with tools for the do it yourselfer, a craft box with supplies for the crafter you know. You can make the “basket” a genuine part of the gift this way. Read the rest of this entry »

Giving gifts by interest isn’t always as easy as it sounds. So often the person has just about everything they want in that category, and so more stuff in that area is hard to find. They either have a better one or don’t want it most of the time.

Fortunately, sometimes you can get around that, especially for gardeners. You just have to figure it out.

The obvious gift for a gardener is a plant. The right plant depends on what type of gardening they enjoy. Read the rest of this entry »

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007 by webmaster

Unless you’re really lucky, shopping for gifts is tough! You need to find something for that lucky person that they’ll appreciate, not something that just ends up on the return list.

One easy mistake to make is to recognize a serious hobby the person has and buy something related to it. However, if the recipient is too serious about it, this could be a big, big mistake. If they’re always buying the best tools and equipment for their hobby, what are the odds that you will find something they actually need? Read the rest of this entry »

Gifts for the New Older Brother

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006 by webmaster

Just as it is for girls, a new baby in the house is hard on the boys, and for all the same reasons. No child likes to see his mother suddenly have less time for him, no matter how good the reason. Reasonable gifts can help.

Time is the best gift of all. Find a way to get time with the new older brother with no baby. Get out of the house and do something fun, whether you go to the park or the ice cream store, and whether it be for 10 minutes or a couple hours.

Books can be great for boys. Find topics he loves to read about, whether it’s dinosaurs, robots, mysteries or anything else. A book about being an older brother is also a good choice for younger boys. Read the rest of this entry »

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006 by webmaster

A new baby in the family is a big change for the older kids in the house. Suddenly there’s someone claiming quite a bit of Mommy’s attention, and they can’t be reasoned with. Every little thing the new baby does gets attention while the older kids wonder what’s so special.

This is a very important time to help an older sister feel special too. She may be feeling neglected and jealous.

One of the most special gifts you can give the new big sister is your time. Take her out of the house without the baby along. She’ll love the attention. Find something she loves to do or just go get ice cream.

You could also make a gift basket for her. Include a bit of jewelry in a small jewelry box, a toy or so, books about being a big sister or maybe even a big sister t-shirt. Read the rest of this entry »

Gifts for Golfers

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006 by webmaster

Golf is a very popular sport. If you know someone who golfs, there are many wonderful gifts you can give them to support their golf habit.

One idea is a golf score counter. These are gadgets that help golfers keep score. It’s perhaps a little easier than doing so on paper. These can be had for a wide range of prices, and go from simple to complex.

An indoor putting green can cost a bit more, but gives the golfer a way to practice his puts no matter the weather. Most sporting goods stores will carry these.

Anything to help with their golf equipment is likely to be welcome. Read the rest of this entry »

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006 by webmaster

Having someone you care about in the hospital is hard. You want to let them know you care and that you’re thinking about them.

The challenge is figuring out what is appropriate. This depends both on why the person is in the hospital and what they like. You also want to think about whether it is something they will be able to use in the hospital or have to take home.

Of course, sometimes you’re sending a get well gift to someone who is sick or recovering from an injury at home, which can open things up a little. You can buy things without worrying about the effort it will take to bring your gift home or if anyone in the hospital might have an allergy. Read the rest of this entry »
